Keys to a cozy dollhouse

If you’re living in a small home- and you’ve read any of my articles about the best looks for small homes- you’ve probably seen that I almost always recommend the cozy dollhouse look.

What is the cozy dollhouse style? What type of custom furniture should I use to embellish the cozy dollhouse style? What kind of color scheme is usually associated with a cozy dollhouse look? I’m here to help.

I’ve been an interior designer for all of my career, and I have seen the best and worst of just about any type of home decor style there is. Cozy dollhouse is easy to do, but it’s also very easy to mess up. Ready? Let’s get started. First and foremost, with a cozy dollhouse home, you’ll want a lighter color scheme. The cozy dollhouse look is really a style that works best in smaller homes and lighter colors make rooms seem more spacious. Try to stick with light neutrals, cool greens and cool blues. I would avoid warm colors in most cases- unless you can find a light maroon that makes the room pop. If you’re not wanting to take a risk with your cozy dollhouse home, stick with the light neutrals and use your custom furniture to do the talking. Light wooden tables and chairs always look nice in a cozy dollhouse. Try to stay with natural wood furniture whenever possible but brighten up the pieces along the wall with cherry wood furniture or oak furniture. White trim whenever possible and along doorways is another way to make the cozy dollhouse seem more spacious and welcoming to guests.
